THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS

 

We apply TBC (Thermal Barrier Coatings) for protection on parts surfaces that are exposed to heat and oxidation.  TBC layers are usually duplex coatings consisting of a FeCrAl/Y  alloy bond coat layer topped by a ceramic coating such as Yitria, Zirconia or Alumina.  Specifically Yitria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is one of the most popular plasma sprayed heat-shield coatings.

TBCs are usually used in aerospace and jet engine components such as on turbine blades, combustion cans, etc.  However, commercial industries also benefit from such coatings in the fields of metal processing, automotive, paper, plastic and rubber manufacturing.
